More progress photos for Jin! The kimono still needs a collar and the emblems. Second photo is without the hakama, he doesn’t wear it that way in the show but I thought it would be cool to have the option of doing a “casual” style.
I really wanted to make sure the costume looked authentic, especially because traditional Japanese outfits are very particular in how they’re worn. Short and longswords are thrust through the obi/hakama in a specific way, and that’s how they’re able to stay in place (I notice a lot of people who do samurai cosplay have their swords positioned incorrectly, or they look like they’re about fall out from the belt) so I spent a lot of time researching before starting the outfit. I think it paid off! I’m really excited to wear this with my Champloo group :D

My one and only progress photo for my Jin costume… I just finished customizing my katana/wakizashi for it (re-wrapping the handles, changing and re-painting the fittings), and somehow I managed to paint the cap on the end of the longsword upside down »’ Oh well. I love my swords! I’ll probably have photos up of the entire costume after the convention is over.
Also, to those who ever have/need to re-wrap a katana’s handle…I feel your pain.
